Mahon Elected Probate Judge

Brian T. Mahon is the new Judge of Probate for the District of Meriden having been successful in the special election held November 2, 2004 to replace Judge John Papandrea who had reached the mandatory retirement age. He defeated another local attorney by a safe margin in a strongly contested race. Judge Mahon will preside over the Probate Court housed in the Meriden City Hall. The Probate Court handles the estates of deceased and incompetent individuals, but also deals with a variety of extremely important issues concerning children. As Probate Judge, Mahon will oversee adoptions and the termination of parental rights of neglectful or abusive parents. He will adjudicate paternity issues and custody disputes.
The Probate Judge position is a part-time commitment and Mahon will continue to be fully involved with his law practice at Weigand, Mahon & Adelman, Attorneys at Law, P.C..
