Adelman Family Foundation Announces 2005 Scholarship Winners

The Adelman Family Foundation announced that it is awarding two (2) scholarships to graduating seniors planning to pursue a career in nursing. The scholarships winners are Samantha Wilson and Yalitza Garcia. Each scholarship is five hundred ($500.00) dollars.

Samantha Wilson is a graduating senior from Francis T. Maloney High School. Ms Wilson has been an active volunteer at her church, with the Kiwanis Hi-Liters and a wide variety of Maloney clubs and teams. Her work as a CNA at the Bradley Home here in Meriden has been outstanding according to her supervisors and is an excellent indication of her future success as a nurse. She will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall.

Yalitza Garcia is a graduating senior from Orville H. Platt High School. Being ranked eleventh (11th ) in her class is a tremendous achievement for Ms Garcia as English is her second language. Ms Garcia has impressed her teachers with her desire to excel in all that she does. Her activities include being the president of the VICA club for two years, serving as president of the German Club twice, participating in a variety of sports and serving as an officer of the National Honor Society. Ms Garcia twice was chosen to participate in the UCONN Mentor Connection Program where she worked on advanced molecular biology projects. She will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall.

The Adelman Family Foundation was organized in 1999 to assist Meriden citizens interested in a nursing career. The Foundation was begun in honor of Georgia B. Adelman, R.N., B.S.N. on the occasion of Mrs. Adelman’s 50th birthday. Having a scholarship program for aspiring nurses had been a long time ambition of Mrs. Adelman and her family. Scholarships have been awarded annually by the Foundation for the last five years.

The Foundation is a tax-exempt non- profit organization and is funded totally by the donations of private citizens. Anyone interested in making a donation to the Foundation may send it to the Adelman Family Foundation, Inc. PO Box 2420, Meriden, CT 06450.
