Colin Mahon Earns Prestigious Title of Board Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist

An elite group of attorneys in Connecticut have earned the prestigious designation of Board Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist. Among them is our very own Colin Mahon, who has held this esteemed title since 2016.
The Connecticut Bar Association administers the specialization program, which requires attorneys to meet rigorous standards to qualify as specialists. These standards include:
- Devoting at least 25% of their law practice to workers’ compensation law.
- Maintaining a satisfactory disciplinary history.
- Carrying specific levels of malpractice insurance.
- Obtaining references from at least five attorneys who appear before the workers’ compensation commission.
- Completing annual continuing legal education in workers’ compensation law.
- Passing a challenging written examination.
- Renewing the specialization every five years.
As of 2025, out of several thousand attorneys practicing law in Connecticut, approximately fifty are recognized as workers’ compensation specialists. According to the Connecticut Bar Association, achieving this designation signifies that the attorney is competent, experienced, and skilled in workers’ compensation law.
